Hermione Granger is a key character in the Harry Potter series. Born September 19, with bushy brown hair and brown eyes, she is the oldest of the trio of friends, herself, Harry, and Ron. She is also the only muggle-born of the three, meaning she is the only one with non-magic, or muggle, parents. However, that doesn’t stop her from being the cleverest and most dedicated student of her year, whether it be by overworking because she wants to take every class available, or by preparing for exams months in advance.

However, the extent of Hermione’s character does not end at “books and cleverness.” She is also a brave and loyal friend, as shown every year. In Year 1, she solves both the problem of getting untangled from the Devil’s Snare and the logic puzzle of Snape’s potion bottles, as well as covers up for Harry and Ron when they go searching for the mountain troll. In her 2nd year, she faithfully searches for the answer to the questions about the chamber of secrets, even if it means risking her own life, as happens when she goes to the library and finds out about the Basilisk. In Year 3, she uses her time turner to save Sirius Black from “a fate worse than death,” because it means so much to Harry. She is also brave in that she endures much of the year without her best friends as friends. And in book4, she faithfully believes Harry when he denies putting his name in the Goblet of Fire, as well as still staying friendly with Ron.

Hermione’s childhood was spent in muggle England, without having any idea of who or what she was. Nothing is ever mentioned about her childhood, or her family, except when they enter Diagon Alley with her one year before school starts.

Although at certain times Hermione seems to be forward, that is not at all true. She has broken into tears and hugged Harry and Ron quite a few times, and it is quite probable that she has a crush on Ron.

Hermione’s favorite class is Arithmancy, taught by Profesor Vector. It is one of the few classes she doesn’t take with Harry and Ron, so what actually happens in that class is not known.

However, Hermione delights in all classes, except potions, which is why she takes so many. She works hard, and her worst fear is failing her classes, as we learn from Lupin’s exam in Book 3. However, her love of classes and learning magic only makes her an “insufferable know-it-all.”

Hermione is altogether a very important and bright person, and the series would not be the same without her.
